Furnace marketing in Manitoba

Manitoba furnace companies work through one of the longest heating seasons in southern Canada, with gas and electric furnaces both common. As of October 2026, Efficiency Manitoba's programs target heat pumps, including free heat pumps for some homes with electric furnaces, so furnace companies need to address that directly.

Manitoba's winter is long enough that a furnace is not a comfort item; it is essential infrastructure. That keeps demand strong, but it also means furnace companies compete for attention with well-funded heat-pump programs aimed at the same homeowners. The companies that do well online explain the options honestly and show why their recommendation fits the house.

The Manitoba furnace market

Statistics Canada reports that 52% of Manitoba households heated mainly with natural gas in 2023, and 33% with electricity. Furnace companies here therefore sell into two groups:

  • Gas-heated homes, where high-efficiency gas furnace replacements are the core job.
  • Electric-heated homes, where owners of electric furnaces weigh a new electric furnace, a heat pump or a hybrid set-up.

Winnipeg is the dominant market. Brandon, Steinbach, Winkler, Portage la Prairie and Thompson are much smaller, and a furnace company there wins mainly through local reputation, a complete map listing and a page for each community it genuinely serves.

Climate and seasonality

Manitoba's prairie winters are long and very cold, and its heating season is among the longest in southern Canada. For marketing:

  • The season starts early. Tune-up and replacement campaigns should be live before the first cold spell, not in response to it.
  • Emergency coverage runs for months. A plan that works for a two-week peak won't hold through a Manitoba winter.
  • Spring matters. Homeowners who nursed an old furnace through a hard winter are often ready to replace in spring, when installs are easier to schedule.

Programs to know

As of October 2026, Manitoba's programs focus on heat pumps:

  • The Efficiency Manitoba Air Source Heat Pump Rebate pays $2,000 toward a ducted cold-climate heat pump, or $1,500 toward a ductless one, in an existing home that is someone's main residence.
  • The Affordable Home Energy Program can give a qualifying home a heat pump at no cost if it currently relies on an electric furnace, baseboards or an electric boiler; a registered program contractor does the install. Its eligibility details were not re-confirmed when we checked.
  • Manitoba was the first province to sign on to the federal Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, in September 2025, delivered through Efficiency Manitoba.

For a furnace company, the electric-furnace program is the one to watch. If you are a registered contractor, it's an opportunity; if not, it's competition you should address with an honest comparison page. Confirm all terms with Efficiency Manitoba before publishing.

Regulators to know

Gas or electric: two different conversations

Manitoba furnace companies effectively run two sales conversations. With a gas-heated household, the talk is about efficiency, reliability and the cost of a replacement versus another repair. With an electric-heated household, it is about whether to replace the electric furnace like for like, add a heat pump, or apply for a program that may cover a heat pump in full.

Your website should split those conversations too. A single "furnace replacement" page that ignores fuel type will read as generic to both groups. Two clear pages, each linked to the relevant program information with a date, will serve both better.

How we'd market a Manitoba furnace company

  1. Winnipeg replacement campaigns running from early fall, split between gas and electric furnace searches, through furnace replacement campaigns.
  2. An honest comparison page: gas furnace, electric furnace, heat pump or hybrid, with program links and dates, through heating-season SEO.
  3. Long-season emergency coverage with weekly missed-call reports, through no-heat call capture.
  4. Pages for Steinbach, Winkler or Brandon, written only if your crews really work there and you have local jobs to point to.
  5. A spring replacement push aimed at homeowners whose furnaces barely made it through.

Plan options are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

How do Manitoba's heat pump programs affect electric furnace replacements?

As of October 2026, the Affordable Home Energy Program offers free heat pumps to qualifying homes heated by electric furnaces, baseboards or electric boilers, through registered program contractors. Its eligibility details weren't re-confirmed when we checked, so verify before mentioning it.

Is Winnipeg the only market that matters?

It is by far the largest, but Brandon, Steinbach, Winkler, Portage la Prairie and Thompson each support local furnace companies. Those towns usually respond better to strong pages and reviews than to big ad budgets.

Who handles gas permits in Manitoba?

The Office of the Fire Commissioner's Inspection and Technical Services branch handles gas and oil burner permits and tradesperson licensing. We link to it for reference only.

When does furnace season start in Manitoba?

Earlier than in most of southern Canada, and it lasts longer. Plan pages and tracking for late summer so you're ready for the first cold spell.
